The best part of the trip to Port Hardy is the route itself, because the nature is just beautiful and there are also some sights along the way. Trips to Campbell River and Telegraph Cove are worthwhile stopovers on the approximately 5 hour drive.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Accommodation in Port Hardy<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_1_klein.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-31057\" src=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_1_klein-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"2. Bericht_Port Hardy_1_klein\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_1_klein-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_1_klein-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_1_klein-1080x723.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBefore we started, we rented a cottage because it was cheaper than the hostels and in the cottage we could cook for ourselves. In the end, we opted for the North Coast Cottages. I would recommend calling the owner of the cottages, because via e-mail we couldn\u2019t reach anybody. By the way, the Cottage includes kayaks, by which the area around the waterfront can be explored, since the cottage is located directly near the water.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Renting a Car<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nWe decided on renting a car from Budget in downtown Nanaimo. There is the possibility of a pick-up service which means that you will be picked up and brought to the car rental agency. That also applies to the return of the car.<br \/>\nAfter we had loaded everything in the car &#8211; we had bought all our groceries in Nanaimo, because we did not know whether there is a supermarket in Port Hardy as well as the time of our arrival.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hiking and Exploring&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_3_klein.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-31062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_3_klein-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"2. Bericht_Port Hardy_3_klein\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_3_klein-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_3_klein-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/2.-Bericht_Port-Hardy_3_klein-1080x608.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWe had planned on one day to go to Port Hardy which effectively was reasonable, because we often stopped on the road and just enjoyed the nature of Canada as well as the stunning view.<br \/>\nThe next day we hiked to a crashed plane lying there since 1944. The description on the internet had indicated that the path to the wreck takes about 30-40 minutes, but we took about an hour, as the trail was very muddy and impassable in some cases. The hike is really worthwhile, because the forest is like a jungle and the aircraft looks like it has just crashed into the hill. And even though the aircraft is huge, you have difficulties to find it in the dense forest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nStarting from Port Hardy it makes sense to drive the way to the Marble River Provincial Park. Due to the fact, that all of us had a lot to do for university we had to return back to Nanaimo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trip to Port Hardy Report by Isabelle A.
