S. before. Therefore, I was pretty excited about my first days at UNCW and the people and how their live would be here. In the beginning I felt pretty lost when I arrived at Wilmington Airport. Also, I was a bit afraid of getting a taxi on my own. Who knows, where I would end up? So, I searched for some young people and hoped that they have to go to UNCW, too and maybe would like to share a taxi. But every single one of them got picked up by their student mentor or host family. So, I waited and watched everyone else leaving. One of the girls got picked up by their three American roommates. They recognized me and offered me a ride. This was such a kind offer, especially because their car was pretty small and not made to fit five people and our huge luggage. I already imagined myself walking. But then they adjusted. We put my suitcase onto the rear seats and just sat on it. It was unbelievable uncomfortable, but it was so much fun. Now, I am friends with the girls, who picked me up and spend more time with them as with my actual roommates. I am so glad we met and<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-90814 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Orientation-Day-II-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/> that they make me feel welcomed right from the beginning!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support from the OISS &#8211; Warm UNCW welcome<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also, the staff from the International Office is always very kind. On our first days at UNCW,\u00a0 they really supported us in having a great time at UNCW. There are two \u201cOrientation days\u201d, where you have the chance to explore the campus and meet other international people. Lots of UNCW students attend to the Orientation Days and show you the \u201chot-spots\u201d that you need to know, for example your class rooms, dining hall, library or the Recreation Center (Gym). They also showed us a near located grocery store. This was very useful for me, as I live on-campus at Seahawk Crossing and choose not to have a meal plan and cook on my own instead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-90823 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Bad-im-Seahawk-Crossing-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>On-Campus Housing (Seahawk Crossing)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am very glad that I have my own room at <a href=\"https:\/\/uncw.edu\/housing\/residencehalls\/index.html\">Seahawk Crossing<\/a> and that I am able to cook what ever I\u2019d like to have. Although groceries are quite expensive in the U. S. (especially healthy one\u2019s!) there is not much difference between buying those or purchasing the meal plan in the end. This choice really depends on what is more convenient to you. Also, I really appreciate that just two people are sharing a bathroom together. On top of that we have a big living room with two sofas, where you can hang out with your roommates and have a little chat in the evening.
