Student report by Jenny G. – Fall Break in Charleston!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fall Break at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington is usually taking place in the first week in October and gives students an opportunity to visit their families or travel around the United States. Especially the exchange students see the long weekend, lasting from Thursday to Sunday, as a chance to discover more of the place they get to call home now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether you want to experience the magic of New York City or want to get connected to nature on a hike in the mountains there is something to do for everybody.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Charleston<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Since my friends and I got a lot of recommendations for the City of Charleston we decided to book a rental car and drive down to South Carolina to take in the flair of this historic and charming city.<\/p>\n

College of Charleston<\/p><\/div>\n

Honoring King Charles II of Scotland, Charleston was originally founded in 1760 as Charles Town. With its incorporation as a city in 1783 Charleston adopted its present spelling.<\/p>\n

Today the City of Charleston is known by a lot of tourists for its beauty, its history, its restaurants, its livability, and its romantic appeal.<\/p>\n

The College of Charleston is also right in the city centre and offers a beautiful unique campus with historical buildings and statues and a beautiful scenery with trees and flowers blooming all over the place. The Bookstore is also right across the street if you want to get some apparel in the beautiful burgundy colors of the cougars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Insider tips<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Downtown Charleston has a lot to offer. Especially King Street, which is one of the main streets has a lot of small boutiques and bigger shops as well as restaurants, bars and clubs. For the duration of our stay we booked an apartment right next to King Street through Vacasa South Carolina, which enabled us to experience the livelihood of this area and have everything we need in walking distance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Charleston<\/p><\/div>\n

Another insider tip from me: Mario\u2019s Italian Restaurante on 487 King Street is a family owned Italian restaurant where you can get authentic Italian cuisine. Brown Dog Deli on 40 Broad Street is especially interesting for people who like to enjoy a variety of interesting and fresh sandwiches in a typical deli setting with great music and extraordinary service.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Historic City Market in 188 Meeting Street is also a big tourist attraction where you can find handcrafted jewelry, art, clothes and lots more. On Marion Square they also have a weekly farmers market on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. where vendors sell similar handcrafted products as they do in the City Market but you can also get fresh produce and enjoy food and drinks while listening to music or watching street performers.<\/p>\n

Overall the two and a half our trip down to Charleston is definitely worth the drive if you want to experience a bigger city with the charm of a small town that is not typically American but combines a lot of different historic districts with a European flair.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
