Given the fact that Thanksgiving day is a national holiday in the US, most people are able to get off work and celebrate the day with their families and friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Text\">This year I had the pleasure of celebrating my first Thanksgiving with my roommate and her family as well as some close friends of theirs. Together we prepared traditional food like turkey, pumpkin pie and sweet potato casserole. My roommate\u2019s sister also invited her friend from Simbabwe so the both of us were able to try new foods and experience what this holiday is all about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"Text\" align=\"center\"><b><u><span lang=\"EN-US\">Blue Ridge Mountains<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\" align=\"center\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The day after Thanksgiving Day we drove up to Beech Mountain, a city in the mountains which is located approximately two hours away from the City of Charlotte. On our way up there we visited the Lees McRae College in Banner Elk and the Appalachian State University which is famous for its football team and located in the city of Boone. There you will find little shops and restaurants which make up the charm of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96271 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Thanksgiving-Beech-Mountain_Jenny-Garber_2021-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" \/>The mountains offer a beautiful scenery for walks and hikes and even skiing and snowboarding is possible on designated slopes.\u00a0<\/span>For people who like the outdoors driving to the mountains is really worth the trip.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">If you decide to stay in or close to Beech Mountain then you should visit Brick Oven Pizzeria. The pizza is definitely worth the wait and you can also get shirts from their gift shop or play mini golf there. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"Text\" align=\"center\"><b><u><span lang=\"EN-US\">Thanksgiving break at UNCW<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"Text\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96267 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.international-student-office.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Thanksgiving_Jenny-Garber_2021-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>For Thanksgiving break students at UNCW get out of class on Tuesday so that it is worth it for most of them to drive home even if they\u00a0live far away. Before the break started the University also celebrated their own version of Thanksgiving called \u201aWagsgiving\u2018 where students came together to have dinner together at the Wagoner Dining Hall. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN-US\">During the break most on campus activities like the Student Recreation Center are closed but there is still a lot to do. Especially as an international student you can always ask in the group chat for internationals if someone else would like to meet up and do something together while most of the rest is gone.
