Fall Break in New York City

Fall Break in New York City

Student report by Maxim F. – Fall Break in New York City

Fall Break is the first major break during fall semester. We had Thursday, Friday, and the weekend off. My roommates and I decided to spend fall break in New York City. So, on Thursday morning we flew to New York. New York is such an amazing city. Every cent I spent was worth it because there is so much to see.

We arrived at our hotel at 5:00pm, and decided to spend the evening in Central Park. First, we went to Fifth Avenue, which is one of the most famous streets in New York with a lot of luxury stores like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and also Trump Tower. 5th Ave lead us straight to Central Park. We grabbed a pizza on the way and ate it in Central Park while watching the beautiful skyline at night. Afterwards, we went to Times Square because our hotel was located really close to Times Square. Times Square is definitely a unique experience, especially at night when all the advertisements are lighting up.

On Friday, we went to Wall Street first thing in the morning. As business majors, we had to go there. Afterwards, we walked over to the ferries that take you to the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is very impressive and going to the island is definitely worth it. You also have an astonishing view of the New York City skyline from the island. Then, we took the Subway and drove to Brooklyn. We found a very cool pizza restaurant and ordered some pizza for lunch. Brooklyn has a very nice promenade with a beautiful view of the skyline and Brooklyn Bridge.

After lunch, we made our way over to Brooklyn Bridge to walk over it. Walking over Brooklyn is another very cool experience, especially because you are able to see the New York skyline the entire time. The next stop on our list was the 9/11 memorial. There is also a very interesting museum showing everything that happened on 9/11. It is an overwhelming place with a very sad atmosphere. Afterwards, we went to the One World Trade Center, the tallest building in New York City. Going to the top is definitely a unique experience. From the top, you can pretty much see everything, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and so on. The highlight of the day was an NBA game of the Brooklyn Nets against the Milwaukee Bucks in the evening.

The following day, we got some breakfast and ate it in Central Park. Walking around in Central Park is very interesting because there are so many different things to see like baseball games or squirrels. Then, we visited the Museum of Modern Art. There are a lot of world famous paintings from the world’s best artists. Another very cool attraction is Rockefeller Center, and especially the Top of the Rock. Going to the top of Rockefeller Center is something I really recommend. On the one side you can look over the entire Central Park, and on the other side you can see the whole skyline of New York. Afterwards, we went to another observation deck called The Edge. From up there you also have a great view. Moreover, the whole area surrounding The Edge is extremely cool. It is called Hudson Yards and it is pretty new. On Sunday we headed back to UNCW.

New York is one of my favorite cities in the world, and it was very cool to experience all of it together with my roommates. It was a break well spent, but also a very exhausting break because we walked a lot. However, it was completely worth it!
