Health Insurance -University of North Carolina, Wilmington (UNCW)

Health Insurance USA*

In the USA, every international student is required to have valid health insurance coverage for the entire duration of their studies.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) also requires all international students to take out health insurance. However, students are free to choose their own insurance provider. Many students extend their German health insurance coverage, while others choose a separate international health insurance policy.

The insurance must cover at least the following benefits:

  • The insurance must provide continuous coverage for at least the entire period during which you are enrolled as a student, including semester breaks.
  • Minimum coverage of USD 100,000 per accident or illness
  • Repatriation coverage of at least USD 50,000
  • Medical evacuation coverage of at least USD 60,000

Proof of health insurance must be issued in English and in US dollars where coverage limits apply.

You are welcome to contact Explorer for information about suitable international health insurance options. Please make sure that the health insurance policy you choose meets all minimum requirements. This will be checked during the orientation session in Wilmington. If your insurance coverage is not sufficient, you will be required to purchase suitable insurance through the university on site.

*All information is provided without guarantee. Please check the covered benefits directly via the insurance.
