UNCW Ambassador 2024

Dear future Seahawk,

I am Lennard, 28 years old and spent my semester abroad at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) in fall 2023.

At the time, I was doing my master's degree in industrial engineering in Germany, which I have since successfully completed.

During my semester at UNCW, I took four courses from different fields – a big plus, as my degree program at my home university gave me a lot of freedom in my choice. In the end, I chose the following courses:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Green Business and Sustainable Enterprise – Intercultural Communication
  • Nutrition and Behavior

The Entrepreneurship course was a particular highlight. In addition to traditional lectures, each student developed their own fictitious company with the help of the course content.

But it wasn't just the courses that shaped my semester abroad – the campus and Wilmington itself also left a lasting impression.

The huge sports center is just a few minutes' walk from the apartments and quickly became an integral part of my everyday life. And of course: Wrightsville Beach! The beach can be reached in about 10 minutes by car or around 30 minutes by bike. I don't think many students can claim to have gone into the sea even after lectures in November.

Wilmington is also ideally located for traveling the entire east coast of the USA – from New York City to Miami.

I absolutely loved UNCW and life in the USA. From NFL games to college football, concerts to day and weekend trips, I had the opportunity to experience so much and meet so many new people during my stay.

So if you have any questions about studying at UNCW, life in the USA or generally about organizing your stay abroad, I look forward to hearing from you. You can reach me at any time by e-mail (l.pfannes@gmx.de).

Best regards and see you soon Lennard
