Discovering Fun and Flavors at the LA County Fair
Hello future students at Westcliff University!
It's my pleasure to tell you about my excellent day out at the LA County Fair in Pomona, California. Studying at Westcliff University, you will have the opportunity to attend the LA County Fair. I went there with a lovely friend from Germany, who was enrolled in the same study abroad program and we had a great time.
A Bit of History
On 43 acres of former barley and beet fields, the LA County Fair was founded in 1922. Since then, it has had a diverse history. Currently covering a large area of 500 acres, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Southern California, with over 750,000 tourists annually. The Fairplex fair, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the community through arts, entertainment, agriculture, education and commerce, is a reflection of the area's vibrant culture.
A Whirlwind of Rides and Attractions
We spent a fantastic day at the fair full of excitement and fun. We started by wandering around the attractions of the lively market square. There were roller coasters, old Ferris wheels and a plethora of other rides at the fair. Seeing all the attractions is fun, but I encourage you to try the rides, which add a lot of thrill. One of the highlights was meeting Thummer Pig, the mascot who has been revered for over 75 years. Thummer welcomes guests every day from her house across from the Big Red Barn. Her friendly appearance makes an enduring impression!
Food Extravaganza
An incredible variety of delicacies that you can't find anywhere else are on offer at the LA County Fair. It's a dream for every food lover. They served burgers on donuts instead of basic buns – yes, you heard right! I was surprised that the combination of sweet and salty worked so well. We also tried delicious fried cheesecake and fried Oreos, which we have never seen anywhere before. You can see that the fair offers inventive and unusual dishes. Shakes and frozen candy provided a welcome refreshment in the heat. A monument to American culinary innovation, the fair's gastronomic offerings are something not found in Europe.
Shopping and Exhibitions
There were many retailers in the market displaying a diverse range of goods, from premium bags to handmade jewelry and unusual gifts. We spent many hours exploring the stalls, each one having special items that would make ideal souvenirs. There were not only small stands, but also larger displays where representatives from different companies presented their products. We saw everything from top-notch kitchen appliances to modern exercise equipment. It was exciting to see the latest product developments and actually try them out.
Engaging Activities
In addition to food and shopping, the LA County Fair offers many other activities. We visited a small theater and watched entertaining performances by local artists. There was also an area where you could try your hand at being a forest ranger and watch tree climbing and tree felling demonstrations. The fairytale forest and the small zoo were further highlights of the day. They allowed us to observe and interact with different animals. These activities were particularly good fun as they created a connection between imagination, knowledge and the environment.
Conclusion
We had a great day at the LA County Fair, with delicious food, fascinating attractions and fun activities. I highly recommend a visit of this fair if you are planning to study at Westcliff University. It is an excellent way to experience American culture first hand, try unusual foods and create unforgettable memories. We look forward to welcoming you and join us for all the fun and excitement Southern California has to offer!
