Las Vegas

Report by Denise A.

San Diego is a great city and you can find everything you need: beaches, Old Town, Downtown, port…even an island is nearby: Coronado. But if you are traveling to California you don’t just want to see San Diego. A city that is definitely worth a trip is Las Vegas. My boyfriend and I drove to Las Vegas and it took us 4, 5 hours from San Diego. The traffic wasn’t too bad. You can also fly, that takes just one hour and ten minutes.

Our Hotel

We stayed in the hotel Luxor. Since we stayed from Sunday to Monday we just had to pay 65$ Dollar for both nights. On the weekends it’s much more expensive. Then you have to pay around 200$ for one night. In other hotels it’s even more. The good thing is that Las Vegas is fun even during the week and there is always something going on. The hotel Luxor was really nice and luxurious. Our room and the bathroom were very clean and were set up in Egyptian style. Breakfast was not included in the price but there were many restaurants located in the hotel and around it.

Must-See Sights in Las Vegas

You can do and see a lot in Las Vegas. First of all you need to see the world-famous water fountain in front of the Bellagio hotel. Times: Monday to Friday 3-8 pm every half an hour, 8 to 12 pm every 15 minutes and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 12 to 8 pm every half an hour, 8 to 12 pm every 15 minutes. Also worth seeing is the fire show in front of the hotel Mirage. It is on every hour after sunset.
We also wanted to see the pirate show in front of the hotel Treasure Island and to the lion-enclosure in the hotel MGM, but unfortunately these attractions have been cancelled. Even though there is still information available about in on the internet. Furthermore you can go inside all the other hotels on the strip. Every hotel is designed with care around a specific theme. For example the hotel Excalibur is known for fairytales.

Dancing in Las Vegas

fountains of Bellagio_kleinAfter seeing many attractions and hotels, we wanted to go to a night club. When it’s during the week, not all of the clubs in Las Vegas are open. I recommend checking it online before you plan to go anywhere. We went to the hotel RIO, which is a ten minute walk away from the strip. There is a nightclub called VooDoo. It is located on the 51st floor of the hotel and even the ride up there is amazing, because you need to take the elevator, which is on the outside of the hotel and covered with glass. The club opened around 9 pm. We paid $10 per person for the entry and the drinks were pretty expensive. But it was definitely worth it, because we had an amazing view over the strip. The music was good and the barkeepers did a good show with their skills. It was a great night so if you are in San Diego you need to visit Las Vegas for sure!
