How to get to Manly?

Report by Jasmin M.

Before my term at ICMS, I worried a bit because I have never travelled so far on my own. I felt concerned about how to get with all my luggage from the airport to the college. So I pre-planned my arrival as good as possible at home.

Taxi or Bus

Wharf
I collected some information and found a couple of possibilities to get to ICMS. One possibility would be the ferry. Therefore you will need to take a train to Circular Quay in the city centre; then you have to take the Ferry to Manly Wharf. Once you arrive in Manly it’s not far to the college, so you could either walk and if you carry a lot luggage with you, I would suggest to grab a taxi to ICMS, which costs approximately $ 6 or to take the bus.

The taxi and bus station is right at the wharf. If you have heavy luggage or arrive late at night you could also take a taxi from the airport to Manly. This will cost you during the day time about $ 60 and at night about $ 80 – maybe you could find some people to share it with and split the costs. Taxis are located outside the main entrance of the terminal. They usually accept cash and visa cards. Tipping is not necessary – it´s up to you.

Shuttle

Unfortunately you have to pay toll charges on top of your fare, but it’s not a lot. I decided to book a shuttle service, which I did 2 weeks before my arrival. That was a very good choice. There are a few shuttle services you find online. I sent them my arrival time and flight number beforehand. When I landed I gave them a call and they picked me up at the terminal. It took approximately 30 minutes to arrive in Manly and it cost me about $ 40.
