Shopping in Manly and Sydney – Semester Abroad Australia

Shopping in Manly and Sydney

Report by Ipek T.

The most beautiful distraction opportunity for students, in addition to the parties, is, of course – Shopping. The first few days, especially during O–Week, we mostly had free time to explore Manly and look for the best shopping opportunities there. On the peninsula there is a large shopping center – the Manly / Warringah Shopping Mall. It is constructed with many small shops, but also brand stores are to be found here. It’s just a nice experience to be there, because it’s just how I think Australia is perceived by many people.

Shopping in Manly

Shopping Street
The joy and happiness of Australians is based on how I find their wonderful lifestyle. And this way of life is, as you can see: Shop til ‘ you Drop! On Saturday, 8th February we had the opportunity to explore for the first time the shopping mall with our RAs and SRC. I think once is definitely not enough to look through all the shops. The best and cheapest way to get there is with the 135 bus, which departs from ICMS and even stops right inside the shopping mall and costs only $3.70 per trip. But not only is the shopping centre fantastic, there are also many small shops in Manly Downtown especially on The Corso that are worth to check out.

Outside the Mall

There are many small shops lined up, in which all desires may be satisfied. There are shoe shops, clothes from A to Z, emergency pharmacy, chemist stores and of course restaurants and bars. Personally, I like the little cute surf shops more, because these stores are just typically Australian. Even the little side streets are full of charming little shops, which definitely catch your eye.

Shopping in Sydney

Sydney Pitt StreetFor the prices, I would like to add that I was told several times before departure that Australians here require exorbitant prices and it is a very expensive country. It depends on what is being purchased. Healthy things such as fruits and vegetables are definitely more expensive compared to Germany, but some garments or fast food are relatively the same. Therefore, do not worry. It wouldn’t be more expensive as in Germany. Those who, of course, want a larger shopping mall or a huge option of shops to browse through should go to the shopping street (Pitt Street) in Sydney. On this note, I wish you a Happy Shopping Trip in Manly / Sydney.
