Comparison of transportation in California – cars, buses and bicycles
A friend and I rented a car from Hertz at the airport at the beginning. It was super easy, as there was a Hertz counter right at the airport. However, the prices for car rental vary greatly. Unfortunately, renting a car in California is not cheap. Especially for drivers under the age of 25, there is always a young driver fee, which can amount to around €250 per month.

Experience California: Road trips in and around California
As you are usually only on campus at Westcliff two to three times a week, it is a great opportunity to explore California and the region in more detail. The region around Irvine, Orange County is beautiful and there is a lot to explore. Laguna and Newport Beach are two particularly beautiful places right by the sea.

Lessons at Westcliff – grades, attendance, structure
During my semester abroad at Westcliff University, I chose four courses with 6 ECTS credits each. I focused on finance and marketing. Attendance is compulsory, which is assessed at 100% and accounts for 2% of the overall grade.
Der Umfang in den verschiedenen Kursen hängt sehr stark von den jeweiligen Professoren ab.

Tips& tricks for your semester abroad at Westcliff University
Your semester abroad is about to start and the anticipation is growing. In the beginning I was very overwhelmed about what exactly I should pack for 4 months. Here are a few tips from me.

My Semester Abroad at VIU
From VIU events to sports events, excursions, hikes, and getting to know Canadian culture – my semester abroad had it all!

My Semester Abroad in Canada: Travel Tips
During my semester abroad at VIU I did a few trips and explored Canada a bit. Among these, I went to the Rocky Mountains, visited Banff, Calgary, Whistler, Vancouver and many lakes.

Short Trip to Tofino
In early October, friends from Germany came to visit, and we traveled together to Ucluelet and Tofino, spending two nights there. Both towns are particularly popular among surfers due to their excellent beach conditions.

Three days in Seattle
Seattle is about a three-hour drive from Vancouver and is perfect for a long weekend. The city offers lots of sightseeing, markets, museums and more.

Orientation Week
VIU’s orientation week took place over four days at the end of August.
It was particularly important to register in advance for the international orientation week called “RockVIU.” Each day, we received emails about the upcoming events, so nobody missed out on anything.

Weekend in Vancouver
We spent the first weekend of October in Vancouver, where we attended a preseason hockey game, went shopping and did some sightseeing. The city offers an impressive mix of natural experiences, cultural highlights, and culinary delights.
