Nature around Nanaimo
The Colliery Dam Park, Westwood Lake, Neck Point Park and Mount Benson are beautiful places to enjoy Canada´s nature, all closely to Nanimo, where the VIU is located.

Halloween
Weeks before Halloween, Canadians start decorating their houses. Some of the decorations are so spooky that it is worth taking an evening walk through the neighbourhoods at dusk to admire the creative displays. Many people place life-size skeletons, fake corpses or carved pumpkins in their yards, adding to the eerie atmosphere and making each house look like a scene from a horror film.

Bears Watching
Vancouver Island is home to a large population of black bears – estimated at around 7,000. A particularly good time to see black bears is during the salmon run, which lasts from late September to November.
Course Overview – Semester Abroad at VIU
During my semester abroad, I am taking five courses. This gives me classes from Monday to Thursday, leaving Fridays free, which provides plenty of time for weekend trips.
